Tupelo Triumvirate ~ Sep 25, 2012

Journal entry by Lenore and Jack Reber

Cliff Lee, Lenore and Jack paddled on the Hudson River at the Sherman Island boat launch. The weather was crisp and sunny, highlighting the few trees in autumn color. On the way downstream, we watched some red-tailed hawks and a young bald eagle riding the thermals above the ridge. A couple of mergansers, sunning themselves on the huge rocks, added to the quiet peacefulness. Our mission to see the fall colors of the black tupelos was rewarding. The color ranged from trees that were a little past peak, with deep red leaves, to some that were just beginning to show bright red hues. The return paddle began up wind with some white caps, but quickly lessoned to a reasonable challenge.
